The short answer
What is Aviana?
Aviana (full name: Aviana: Adaptive Sound) is a sleep and focus sound app. It plays a catalog of 258 sounds, each labelled with how strong the research behind it is, lets you layer them into mixes, speaks custom sleep affirmations written from your own prompt, and, if you wear an Apple Watch or a supported ring, adapts the sound to your heart rate through the night. It runs on iPhone, Android and the web, needs no account, and shows no ads.
Who it is for
People who fall asleep to sound and want more than a single loop: light sleepers masking a noisy room, people whose minds race at bedtime, people who focus better with background sound, and neurodivergent listeners who need low-sensory audio without sharp transients. It is also for people who want to know why a sound is supposed to help, not just that it is.
What it does
- A catalog of 258 sounds across five categories: Sleep (pads, drones, singing bowls, heartbeat), Nature (rain, ocean, wind, forest), Frequencies (white, pink, brown, blue and violet noise, binaural beats), Neurodivergent (low-sensory soundscapes for ADHD, autism and misophonia) and Affirmations.
- An evidence tier on every track (strong, moderate, low, or traditional) with a one-line summary of the research, so a sound with thin evidence says so.
- Mixes of up to 16 layers with per-layer volume, saved and shared by link.
- Custom AI affirmations: type a sentence about what is on your mind and get a 60 to 120 second spoken affirmation in one of five voices. Your prompt is not stored.
- A smart alarm in the iPhone and Android apps that aims to wake you in light sleep within a window you choose, when wearable data is available. Without it, it is a gentle rising alarm at your set time.
- An adaptive layer that reshapes the sound from your heart rate and detected sleep stage, using Apple Watch, Oura or Ultrahuman directly, or any wearable that syncs to Apple Health or Health Connect.
- Sleep tracking from Apple Health and Health Connect: a last-night summary and a 7-day trend.
What it does not do
- It is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat insomnia or any other condition. If you have a sleep disorder, see a clinician; CBT-I is the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia.
- Affirmations have not been tested for sleep in clinical trials. Aviana offers them as a wind-down aid, not a treatment.
- The smart alarm needs a wearable's sleep-stage data, and stage detection from a watch or ring is imperfect. It improves the odds of a gentler wake-up; it does not guarantee one.
- For blocking outside noise, foam earplugs outperformed pink noise in a 2026 sleep-lab study. Aviana's noise tracks say so.
How much it costs
Aviana is freemium, not free. The sound catalog, mixes, the smart alarm, sleep tracking and bedtime reminders work without a subscription, and every device gets five custom AI affirmations. The premium subscription adds more custom affirmations, the adaptive layer and offline downloads. There is no advertising tier.
Where it runs
As a web app at app.aviana.life in any modern browser, on iPhone through a public TestFlight beta (not yet on the App Store), and on Android through open testing on Google Play. An Apple Watch companion ships with the iPhone app. Every install link is on the download page.
Privacy, in one paragraph
No account, no email, no password. No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. Aviana collects de-identified usage events keyed to a random device ID (no name, no email) and keeps them 90 days. Health data is read on the device to drive the adaptive layer and is not uploaded unless you opt in to research. The full notice is on the privacy page.

How Aviana compares with a white-noise app
Common questions
Is Aviana a medical device?
No. Aviana is a wellness app that plays sound. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, and its research notes describe the evidence for each sound rather than promising an outcome.
Do I need a wearable to use Aviana?
No. The catalog, mixes, affirmations and alarm all work without one. A wearable (Apple Watch, Oura, Ultrahuman, or any device that syncs to Apple Health or Health Connect) adds the adaptive layer and the light-sleep timing of the smart alarm.
Is Aviana on the App Store?
Not yet. The iPhone app is in a public beta on TestFlight, the Android app is in open testing on Google Play, and the web app works today. Links for all three are on aviana.life/download/.
Who makes Aviana?
A small independent team that started from the sleep-sound research rather than the aesthetics. You can reach the team at hello@aviana.life, and press at press@aviana.life.
